Home About Us

Our Mission:

To achieve social justice for all people through faith-based leadership, education, advocacy and partnerships.

Our Vision:

  • A network of faith communities across Connecticut committed to partnering for social justice for all.  link here
  • The Conference of Churches was founded in 1900 and is recognized as one of the oldest ecumenical organizations in the country. Since it’s inception, The Conference has been involved in such issues as school de-segregation, anti-gambling advocacy, welfare reform, elder advocacy and community organizing.
  • The Reverend Shelley D. Best serves as President & CEO.  She directs a highly capable staff who strives for excellence in the delivery of services. As a small organization with a staff of nine full and part-time staff, we serve as ministry and project consultants to help faith communities create programs and services to address neighborhood needs. Our staff are not only well seasoned in areas of public health, social work, theology, child welfare, psychology, community organizing and gerontology, but we have a passion to make a difference in the region through faith based services. Many of our partners consider us to be inspirational coaches who create implementation strategies to make the impossible, possible. In short, we help faith-based organizations discover their own social capital while making the work of ministry leaders easier.
